J.L. and Faye

J.L. Self and Winona Faye Brown were married on August 1, 1946.  In 2006 they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception. The weekend was filled with family, friends and visiting. In 2014 they celebrated their last anniversary, 68 years.

Faye passed away May 17, 2015 and J.L. passed away December 20, 2015.

JL and Faye were both born and raised in Briscoe County, Texas. They are both graduates of Silverton High School as well as all three of their children and some of their grandchildren.

J.L. went into the military upon graduation from high school.  He and Faye married while he was still in the service. He was a cook in the officer's mess and he made the best "over easy" eggs out there.

In 1948 they returned to Silverton and began farming with J.L. playing baseball in the Irrigation League. In 1951 they built a home on their first farm. After all of their kids had grown and left home, Faye went back to school and became a nurse.

J.L. continued to dabble in agriculture until the end and Faye worked on her genealogy files.

They were active members of the Silverton Church of Christ and avid fans of Silverton Owls sports.
